SkekTek – Multigenre bass music

Move Entertainment / The Launchpad / Represent D&B

After falling in love with EDM in the Washington DC rave scene of the mid-late 90’s, Ryan Walker bought his first set of turntables in ’99 and began spinning drum n bass, taking up the moniker SkekTek.
Having played at clubs and house parties throughout the DC area, SkekTek moved to Nashville at the end of 2005. Since then, his style has expanded to include dubstep, drumstep, electro, glitch hop, and moombah. If it has a nasty bassline and makes you shake your ass, chances are SkekTek plays it.
In March ’10, SkekTek won the Mai DJ Competition, and traveled to Miami to play at the Bassdrive Label Launch party at the Winter Music Conference. He was also featured on Squake’s Represent Radio show on
In July ’11, he beat out a field of 100 DJs nationwide to earn a spot playing on the BuzzBoat, a rave-themed cruise from Miami to Nassau with legends such as DJ Icey, Scott Henry, Feelgood, Frankie Bones, and Simply Jeff. His reputation has gained him bookings throughout the Southeast, Midwest and Mid-Atlantic, and he also traveled to Germany to play and record overseas.
2012 saw SkekTek team up with regional bass music heavy hitter Oreo to found Move Entertainment, hosting well-attended and reviewed events in Nashville featuring top local and regional DJs, as well as starting the Move GoGo Dancers, Tennessee’s most well known and respected GoGo troupe. He performed weekly on his radio show on while the site was active in 2013.
In 2013, SkekTek joined forces with fellow bass enthusiast Souljunk to form the tag duo Backcountry Beatdown, and they quickly became known for their devastating multigenre tag sets, landing gigs opening for Adventure Club and playing festivals and shows with artists such as Steve Aoki, Borgore, J. Rabbit, and Singularity.
He has been a featured artist twice at the Home Grown Bass Music Campout, and has also played at the Weird Bass Music Festival, iSuarave, and Music in the Middle Festival.
SkekTek has performed at events alongside Skrillex, Kaskade, Adventure Club, Borgore, Urban Assault, Black Sun Empire, Dieselboy, ill.Gates, Sidney Samson, Dara, AK1200, Terravita, J. Rabbit, Singularity, Wick-It the Instigator, RUN DMT, Helicopter Showdown, Cyberoptics, Evol Intent, Bailey, A-Sides, and Cause4Concern, among others.
